AI Engineering Intern

About the Role

Join Responsible AI Labs as an AI Engineering Intern and gain hands-on experience building tools that make AI systems safer and more equitable. This internship is designed for motivated students or early-career engineers who are passionate about responsible AI.

You'll work alongside our research and engineering teams on real projects, from building evaluation pipelines to creating data visualization tools to experimenting with novel scoring approaches. This isn't a coffee-fetching internship; you'll ship code that impacts how organizations worldwide evaluate their AI systems.

We're looking for curious, self-driven individuals who aren't afraid to ask questions and take initiative. Prior experience with ML is helpful but not required. A strong foundation in software engineering and genuine interest in AI safety matter more.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to full-stack features across the RAIL evaluation platform
• Help build and maintain data processing pipelines for AI evaluation datasets
• Develop and improve automated testing and quality assurance tools
• Create data visualizations and dashboards for evaluation metrics
• Participate in code reviews and learn from senior engineers
• Document your work and present findings to the team

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML, or a related field
• Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript
• Basic understanding of machine learning concepts
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn
• Ability to commit to a minimum of 3 months (flexible scheduling available)

Nice to Have

• Experience with web frameworks (React, Next.js, Flask, or FastAPI)
• Familiarity with NLP or transformer-based models
• Personal projects or coursework in AI ethics, fairness, or safety
• Open-source contributions
